WHAT IS MOKA POT AND HOW TO USE IT?

moka pot

You can find small, two-chamber moka pots in almost every home in Italy; the coffee you get with an easy-to-use moka pot is full-bodied and richly aromatic. Invented in Italy in the 1930s, the moka pot consists of a cylinder (lower chamber), a funnel-shaped filter, an upper chamber where the coffee collects, and a second detachable filter attached to the bottom of the upper chamber via a gasket.

How Does the Moka Pot System Brew Coffee?

The water heated in the lower chamber rises with 2 atmospheres of steam pressure, passes through the ground coffee in the filter, and collects as liquid coffee in the upper chamber. You can watch the video explaining the moka pot brewing system below.

  8. Remove the pot from the stove just before your coffee starts to form air bubbles as it comes out of the column in the upper chamber; this way, you will get the best parts of the coffee.moka pot coffee recipe
  9. After waiting a short while, stir your coffee with a spoon and pour it into a cup to serve.

How to Clean a Moka Pot?

Moka pots are mostly made of aluminum. Coffee brewing equipment made from aluminum should never come into contact with materials like soap, detergent, or sponges. You should only clean this equipment by scrubbing or rinsing it by hand with hot water. Otherwise, the aluminum material can react and turn into a substance that could threaten your health.

    1. Cleaning your moka pot immediately after use will make your job easier by preventing residual coffee and water from drying and staining. To do this, hold the hot pot under cold water until it reaches a temperature you can comfortably handle.
    2. Separate the moka pot (lower chamber, filter, and upper chamber).
    3. Clean your cast aluminum pot by simply rinsing it in lukewarm water.
    4. You can dry the washed parts and put them away in your cupboard until the next use.
